Text by Giovanni Pelosini
Music by Giovannimparato
The Voices of the Arcana are images and sounds, they are speaking symbols to the sensitive beings who have embarked on a path of knowledge. They are the first work that explicitly declares itself as the sonic expression of the 22 Major Arcana of the Tarot deck: 22 special spiritual Paths to be read and listened to as meditative journeys in the cosmic Spiral that envelops and involves both individual and universal consciousness.
Sound as an eternal and living Archetype, rhythm as magic, music as the voice of the Tarot have been the subject of a long and complex research by a passionate scholar of esoteric and astrological symbols and an extraordinary musician born in the sunny yet Plutonian sounds of Naples and raised in the sacredness of Afro-Cuban percussion.

MASTER OSVALDO MENEGAZZI IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST ILLUSTRATORS OF TAROT CARDS AND HAS BEEN VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE TAROT MUSEUM, WHICH HOSTS VARIOUS COLLECTIONS. AMONG THOSE WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE RENEWAL OF ANCIENT ICONOGRAPHY, WITH FANTASTIC, CURIOUS, AND MAGICAL DECKS, MENEGAZZI IS CERTAINLY A PROMINENT FIGURE—A PAINTER, PUBLISHER, AND COLLECTOR WHO, SINCE 1975, HAS REVIVED THE TRADITION OF CARDS AND TAROT WITH ENTHUSIASM AND ORIGINALITY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS DECKS OF CARDS AND TAROT THAT MASTER MENEGAZZI HAS DESIGNED AND PRODUCED IN LIMITED AND NUMBERED EDITIONS (SOME SOLD OUT FOR YEARS, OTHERS HARD TO FIND), MANY OF WHICH HAVE ALREADY LEFT THEIR MARK ON HISTORY. MENEGAZZI HAS LEFT HIS INDELIBLE MARK IN THE ART AND MAGIC WORKSHOP "IL MENEGHELLO," A HISTORIC AND RENOWNED SPACE, A DESTINATION FOR COLLECTORS AND ENTHUSIASTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD.

APPROPRIATE TAROTS
The project
The "Appropriate Tarot" represented a very interesting theme and were present in Bologna later than elsewhere, and not always in verse. Lodovico Frati, in a handwritten list from 1668, recalls: "some ladies were defined with the cards of the Tarocchini game. Lady Cristina of Northumbria was baptized as the Angel and Countess Palmieri Fava as the Devil." Then again: "'The Triumphs of the Appropriate Tarocchini, each assigned to a Bolognese Lady, is composed of two distinct parts: the first part lists the correspondences between the triumphs and the ladies, and the second provides in prose an explanation of the proposed correspondence, sometimes cruel; for example, the Devil is assigned to Countess Baldi 'because of her frightening deformity and ugliness.' This unpleasant composition is preserved in manuscript and was undoubtedly written before 1725, as it includes among the triumphs the 'four Popes'."
From this ancient system of reading comes the "Appropriate Tarot" project. Each of the 22 Major Arcana inspired a poet, Jari Casagrande, who composed lyrics related to each Major Arcana created. In addition, an expert writer in the field, Giovanni Pelosini, curated the presentation of the work.

EVERY SCENE FROM HIS FILMS HAS ALWAYS REPRESENTED FOR ME A UNIQUE WORK, ALMOST A FRESCO THAT, TOGETHER WITH OTHER SCENES, CREATED A UNIVERSE. I HAVE LOVED HIS WORKS VERY MUCH, BUT I HAVE CHOSEN ONLY A FEW, THOSE MOST CONNECTED TO MY LIFE. THE FRAME I USED IS NOT THE CLASSIC TAROT ONE, BUT RATHER THE PHOTOGRAPHIC FILM, SINCE SOME OF HIS WORKS WERE PHYSICALLY MADE ON FILM, AS FOR EXAMPLE IN PERSONA. TECHNICALLY, I PHOTOGRAPHED THE TELEVISION DIRECTLY WHILE THE FILM SCENES WERE PLAYING. THIS WAY, THE IMAGES WERE CAUGHT BY SURPRISE, IN THE SYNCHRONICITY OF THE MOMENT, JUST AS THE PATH OF THE TAROT IS. IT, BESIDES BEING EVOLUTIONARY, TOUCHES THE GREAT ARCHETYPES OF MAN, AN ELEMENT THAT IN BERGMAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN OBSERVED. ANOTHER CHOICE WAS TO REPRESENT ONLY HUMAN FACES, TRYING TO GIVE EACH ONE THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CARD. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE, THE STAR, BECAUSE THE 'HIGHER GUIDE' HAS NO FACE. NOR WOULD I OVERLOOK THE MAGICAL ASPECT, IN THE DEEPEST SENSE OF THE TERM, THROUGH WHICH I BELIEVE BERGMAN'S LANTERN IS STILL VIVID AND SHINING.

Just as in the eyes of the jester, the wonder repeats itself. Because pure eyes are needed to see clearly. And only to those who wake up in the morning and discover that the Great Mother from the tales of the past exists... only to them will she reveal herself.
Between the silence of God and death, only one step. And that is what I fear, the step that separates us.
The thin boundary that separates night from day cannot be revealed. Otherwise, it generates monsters. I cannot illuminate the mystery, but I can only perceive its reflection.

The research in this artistic operation involving the artist Adolfina De Stefani in the representation of the 22 MAJOR ARCANA is aimed at accessing and bringing to light those signals that existential routine hides or does not allow to decipher. This photographic “performance,” with its various facets, becomes an opportunity to activate an intuitive and globalizing logic, which connects minimal elements and symbols in an unusual but exclusively liberating way.
The artist Adolfina De Stefani has put her own body, her own person, her own feelings at stake, shaping the work in all its artistic facets.
One's own body has become a channel for transmitting one's own language, a living and exciting instrument, yet true and unpredictable, contaminating the visual space and involving the viewer in this contamination. The sense that emerges is always strongly emotional. What remains is the symbolic trace, harsh, evocative, revealing to itself those secrets that time has guarded and continues to guard. The strong colors remain, black, red, almost emerging from the gestures or from the body itself as indelible marks of a tormented existence brought to the surface in all its physical matter to rediscover emerging meanings, full of materiality, physicality, and theatricality.
In this representation, the artist lives within themselves the different paths of their art-making, analyzing and translating the ARCANA with a sense of belonging, externalizing tensions, needs, stories, and other lands. They wear them, opening up to dialogue, translating and making the present visible by transforming it into something collective, without codifying, without boxing it into prepackaged meanings, leaving room for interpretation.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORK IS TO REPRESENT THE SHADOW SIDE OF THE TAROT, THAT IS, THE DEEPEST AND DARKEST ASPECT, THROUGH WHICH ONE ENTERS THE SOUL OF THESE SYMBOLS, GAINING AN AWARENESS THAT ALLOWS ONE TO INTEGRATE THIS SHADOW. THE TERM 'CONTRO' MEANS 'CONTRARY, OPPOSITE, CONTRASTING'. A TERM THAT CAN BE DISSOLVED AND RESOLVED THROUGH ENCOUNTER, THAT IS, THE ACCEPTANCE OF ONE'S OWN DARK SIDES, REMEMBERING THAT BY RECOGNIZING THE POISON, ONE CAN ALSO DISCOVER THE ANTIDOTE OF HEALING. Why Emperor now? Because you will have to deal with power and counterpower, with the politics in which you move and others move around you. Instead, use that sovereign power that makes you unique and unrepeatable, use the authority of your wisdom and fight honestly to assert your ideas... leaving a mark of your command, forever...

Stop the war. Stop the war, if you want. And this does not mean surrendering or feeling fragile, weak, vulnerable to everything that surrounds us. Do not think that. It is not correct. Everyone has their own race and in your hour it is written: Stop the war, enough with the war, with the blood and the internal struggle that undermines the foundations of your being.

The curator, the art critic Maurizio Vitiello, has brought together twenty-two contemporary artists who have translated into a modern language a synthesis between tarot and alchemy.
Artists: Luisa Bergamini, Giovanni Boldrini, Arturo Borlenghi, Alessandro Carlini, Chiara (Catalani) & Chiara (Strozzieri), Maria Pia Daidone, Ettore Le Donne, Umberto Esposti, Maria Cristiana Fioretti, Antonio Fomez, Giovanni Lacatena, Giuseppe Antonello Leone, Cesare Lezzi, Franco Lista, Nabil, Romy Nardi, Monica Pennazzi, Alessandro Perinelli, Massimo Pompeo, Clara Rezzuti, Gianni Rossi, Benvenuto Succi
Mixed techniques: watercolors, inks, pastels, enamels, graphics, photos.

The artist Franco Coletti has created many works for the Tarot Museum: three Shakespearean decks, Macbeth, Hamlet, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. In reality, he had already created various decks and, in fact, he himself recalls that the Tarot of D was the unexpected beginning of an adventure that is not yet over. Those first works were followed in a few years by the Black Tarot, the Red ones, and the Green ones, only with the major arcana, all inspired by and dedicated to a special woman; then the first complete deck of
seventy-eight cards, Beyond the Dark Forest, in clear connection with the Divine Comedy. Later, a work dedicated to a little girl was born, who then became the muse for numerous books, Emi, from which the deck Emi in Wonderland was created, also printed for an American audience, Emi in Wonderland, with the images reproduced in the book of the same name. Then a series of cards linked to the poetics Sacred and Profane Love, part of the book of the same title, such as the Cards of Love and Death, plus other decks of major arcana used as illustrations for his numerous books. The Museum owns all the originals of these precious works, and the prints are kept inside artist's boxes made by Osvaldo Menegazzi, so each one represents a unique work of art.

hand-drawn illustrations using various inks. The artist's intent is to create a deep connection with one's own 'daimon'. This term, in religious culture and Greek philosophy, refers to an intermediate being between the divine and the human, with the function of mediating between these two dimensions. In Orphic religion, the daemon is the very essence of the soul, imprisoned in the body for a committed fault from which it seeks to free itself. Each card leads into the mysterious cave that lives within each of us to discover that subtle golden thread taken from reason and given to feeling.
mixed technique: collage, photos, pastels, inks.

CONNECTION TAROT
JESSICA ANGIULLI - DISCONNECTED VOICES
IT.
A fanciful and surreal vision of the tarot. Many of the cards, which are numbered and titled in both Italian and English, have been renamed, although the symbolism is easily recognizable. This deck invites the seeker on a mysterious journey through symbolic images, in which Dave McKean's artistic style can be recognized.

THIS IS A WORK CREATED THROUGH SKETCHES DESTINED TO BECOME SCULPTURES. VARIOUS MECHANISMS APPEAR, AS IF THEY WERE THE GEARS OF LIFE. THROUGH THESE DEVICES, SOME FRAGMENTS OF STORIES WERE BORN THAT, STEP BY STEP, LIKE A MOSAIC, CREATED A SINGLE WORK. BARBIERI ALSO CREATED THE TAROT INNER TRANSPARENCIES, A SERIES OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE PLASTIC CASTINGS. FURTHERMORE, SINCE THE ARTIST WAS A REFINED GLASS FOUNDER, THE MUSEUM HOSTS ONE OF HIS BLOWN GLASS SCULPTURES ENTITLED THE EMPRESS'S DRESS. THE VIAL AT THE TOP OF THE SCULPTURE IS SURMOUNTED BY A GOLDEN ROSE, THE PHILOSOPHICAL SYMBOL OF THE ROSICRUCIANS, WHILE INSIDE IT CONTAINS FLOUR: A SYNTHESIS BETWEEN SPIRITUAL AND MATERIAL NOURISHMENT.

BREAKFAST TAROT CARDS
LUNCH TAROT CARDS
Nourishment is the essential basis of life, through which the human being grows and evolves. These works reify the ancient rituals in which ingesting the symbol was equivalent to incorporating it, making it one's own. In fact, the tarot cards are drawn on edible foods such as cookies and crackers, which, once photographed, became real cards... but the originals are on display.

BREATH TAROT GIOVANNI MONTI
IT.
The Tarot of Breath by Giovanni Monti was one of the Museum's first publications and immediately attracted international collectors for its originality. Each work is connected to its corresponding vital breath. Much has been said about this highly evocative and expressive deck, capable of awakening primordial hopes and fears while meditating on the images. For example, the Magician is connected to the Infinite Breath, like the countless possibilities opened up by the awareness of possessing infinite tools; the High Priestess, to the Secret Breath, that is, the descent beyond the deception of appearances to know, at the cost of sacrifice, the true essence; the Empress, to the Fertile Breath, capable of generating life, creating beauty and illuminating it with natural light; the Emperor, to the Primitive Breath, as the imposition of personality, instinct to command and protect; the Pope, to the Controlled Breath, that is, the rhythm dictated by the chosen rule, and so on…

MARIA TERESA MONTI - IT.
When the art of cartomancy meets that of painting. Technique: watercolor and ink
https://www.museodeitarocchi.com/store/product/d077-i-tarocchi-di-terry

It is a synthesis between miniature and surrealism. The deck was created between 1982 and 1983. It is a refined artistic work that was sought after by several publishing houses, but never published. Furthermore, this deck appears in A Date with Miss Fortune, a Canadian film from 2015, directed by John L'Ecuyer and distributed in Canada in 2016. Seventy-seven painted boards by Maria Teresa Monti are on display, thus the complete deck, except for the Empress.
By the same author, the Tarot of Terry has been published.
Mixed technique: pencil, ink and tempera

The court of Borso was the center of the Ferrara School of Painting, to which the greatest artists such as Francesco del Cossa, Ercole de' Roberti, and Cosmè Tura belonged. In Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, he is considered a magnanimous and enlightened ruler. Borso, among other things, ordered the frescoes of the Hall of the Months and commissioned the famous Bible, one of the highest works of miniature painting of the Italian Renaissance.
A gem of the Ferrara Workshop, kept inside the San Romano Museum. Cosmé Tura, in addition to being a painter of great fame, can be considered an initiate who, through art, expressed a mysterious and lunar path, all to be deciphered. The organ shutters he painted appear to be generous, but continue to hide secrets, so that access is not for everyone. An alchemical and esoteric path towards purification and contact with the mythical Hermes Trismegistus, the thrice great author of every magical art…
A whole world lives inside this Palace, where the Hall of the Months is a true talisman of the city. Unique. In the upper part of the fresco, the gods of Olympus appear in the order established by Manilius' Astronomicon. In the middle section are the decans inspired by Eastern culture and distant India. Finally, at the bottom, city life. A world of cultures, all united to celebrate the beauty and magic of Ferrara!

Every corner of Bologna becomes a source of inspiration for each of the twenty-two major arcana, thus telling the lesser-known history of the city through the inspiration of the tarot cards. Here are some examples. In the arcana VIII, Justice, the Lambertini Tower appears. Justice discriminates and legislates, but has a thousand eyes capable of spotting the sprouts of new ideas, the most dangerous ones in the villages, on the edges of the streets. Inside the Palatium Novum (Palazzo Re Enzo), or the Palace of Justice, justice was indeed administered. Legend has it that this tower is still inhabited by the presences of the Lambertini family, who sometimes meet with the Captains of the People, usurpers of the ancient residence, and with the ghosts of the women imprisoned there, when from 1327 to 1328 it was a women's prison.
