La Miscellanea di Trevelyon del 1608,
compilata da Thomas Trevelyon a Londra nel 1608, é una miscellanea di
manoscritti illustrati contenente note e disegni
(molti colorati a mano) su temi storici, religiosi, sociali e pratici,
adattati da una varietà di fonti, tra cui la Bibbia e scrittori inglesi
antichi e contemporanei.
Secondo il dott. Heather Wolfe, curatore dei manoscritti e archivista
della Folger Shakespeare Library, lo scopo principale della miscellanea
di Trevelyon é
didattico a uso mnemonico.
Dai numerosi disegni contenuti nell'opera sono state scelte 22 immagini a
rappresentare i 22 arcani maggiori dei tarocchi, corredati da lettere
alfabetiche per comporre i nomi degli arcani desunte dallo stesso testo.

The Trevelyon Miscellany of 1608, compiled
by Thomas Trevelyon in London in 1608, is an illustrated manuscript
miscellany containing handwritten notes and drawings (many hand-colored)
on historical, religious, social and practical themes, adapted
from a variety of sources, including the Bible and ancient and
contemporary English writers.
According to Dr. Heather Wolfe,
Curator of Manuscripts and Archivist at the Folger Shakespeare Library,
the primary purpose of the Trevelyon miscellany is didactic and
mnemonic.
From the numerous drawings contained in the work, 22 images were chosen
to represent the 22 major arcana of the tarot, accompanied by
alphabetical letters to compose the names of the arcana taken from the
same text
.
