The iconology of the plates does not follow tradition, representing in each arcana characters linked to the biblical world or ancient Rome. There are various levels of interpretation, moreover many painted scenes have been brought closer to the Renaissance cultural world, steeped in hermetic, more specifically alchemical, culture.
